Resistance under the Black Light: Exploring the Use of Music in Two Exotic Dance Clubs is about exotic dancers using music to express their feelings and posses what they desire (money). Exotic dance clubs have been exponentially growing since 1987 and are still gaining popularity with increasing revenues. R. Danielle Egan went undercover disguising herself as a participant to conduct her study about exotic dancers. Many clubs did not want their women to showcase rap, hip-hop, or heavy metal music since it signified a non-classy environment. Many exotic dancers opposed the idea of rap, hip-hop and heavy metal being banned. So the exotic dancers played roles in order to listen and preform better. The way women got to listen to the music they wanted to hear is by connecting in a romantic connection with their customers. If the exotic dancers got their customers to think that a specific song was special because it signified a bond between them then the exotic dancers would be able to play any song they wanted. It was a lucrative way to lure men into thinking they were in control and also the costumer is always right method. Also there were times when the clubs were not as productive and the exotic dancers became impatience and frustrated and had to use heavy metal to scream obscenity in order to get the attention of the few customers that were there. Overall, music was an important factor for all the exotic dancers because it made them feel in power and express their feelings as well it made them money.
