Vanesa Rivera- Presentation
One of the articles I'm going to discuss is Eminem's Authenticity. This article was so interesting there is so many things to say about it. I am a fan of his music so everything about this article was fascinating and entertaining. So basically, it discusses how Eminem's lyrics are authentic and how he stays true to himself and real. It talks about how when he first started and why Dre signed him up. After getting a lot of crap about his race from black rappers, he used that towards his music which showed how he wasn't ashamed and kept it true. He just did what he was good at and was able to sell it in his music. The same goes for the violent misogyny in his lyrics. research shows that there is a demand for harsher, violent lyrics. So, Eminem's lyrics was for his fans and none that he says was true. In order to sell a record, you have to be as cruel, violent, and misogynistic about everything. If you see your consumers love that why stop when you know you're making a lot of money. It is the entertainment industry and it is for entertainment and not to be taken so seriously. You can also tell that in his lyrics he comes off as sarcastic. Another point that was interesting was why he doesn't use the N word. Eminem does say the the N word is not in his vocabulary, so he doesn't have any reason to say it. But the author insists that it is in his vocabulary because his black friends say it in his music. Basically rapping is saying whatever you want to say for kicks, and if saying the N word is in your vocabulary, then go for it Eminem is not gong to stop his friends from saying the word. But doesn't mean he has to say it.
