Why is music today doesn't contain lyrics about political issues like in the 1960's?

I interviewed my classmate about why music today are not making music that refers to political issues. My interviewee response was that the artist's tend to not go all political in their songs because it wont sell and are more focused on what sells like violence, sex, and drugs. My classmate states that it also has to do with big businesses where they advertise on what to their songs should be about. In the past, since 9/11, that was a moment where most artists contained political lyrics as a form to open people's ears about conspiracies. It was like a form of protest. So now that has chnaged completely where the political statements have decreased until possibly another tragic event occurs in our nation.
