Fry,
I interviewed a fellow student in class on September 8, 2014. The topic of discussion was Columbus Day and how some people would like to change the name of the holiday to Indigenous Day. I asked my classmate what her opinion was on changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Day. She stated that it would be hard to change the name after society has known it to be Columbus Day since its existence. She said people would probably still refer to it as Columbus Day, even if the name was legally changed to Indigenous Day, just because that is what they grew up calling it. Also, the holiday was created because of Columbus and it revolves around him. Then if they did change the name and began teaching children Indigenous Day, we would still have to explain to them the story of Columbus. So they truly could never get rid of Columbus's role in this holiday. This interview was one of the beginning interviews I did in the class and I can hear how I have improved already. The opening of the interview was rough because I just stated the question, but I feel I did a good job on repeating her statements.
